MoodleCloud data hosting locations

MoodleCloud sites are hosted in one of three global regions (Europe, Australia, or the United States). Hosting regions are automatically assigned based on the country selected when a site is first created. You can verify your specific hosting location at any time via the Plan tab in your MoodleCloud Portal.

Where is my MoodleCloud data hosted?

MoodleCloud sites are hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure. To support reliable performance and comply with regional data privacy standards, your site is hosted in one of three global locations:

• European Union (Ireland)
• Australia (Sydney)
• United States (Oregon)

How is my hosting location determined?

Your hosting region is automatically assigned when the site is first created, based on the Country you select. This ensures your site is set up in the most appropriate location for your geographic area.

For example, sites created by users in Europe are automatically hosted in the European Union (Ireland) region to align with GDPR and other local data residency requirements.

How can I confirm my site's hosting location?

You can check where your data is hosted by following these steps:

1. Log in to the MoodleCloud Portal (Opens in a new tab).
2. Select the relevant site from your list.
3. Click on the Plan tab.
4. Your Hosting location will be displayed within the site details.
   
   

Can I change my hosting region?

Hosting regions are permanent once a site has been created. Because each site is technically tied to its specific location, we are unable to move existing sites or their data between regions.

If you have specific data residency requirements, please ensure the correct country is selected during the initial setup to ensure your site is created in the appropriate region.

*If you are located within the EEA, some data may need to be transferred outside the region. To ensure the protection of personal data in such cases, we rely on the Cross-Border Standard Contractual Clauses outlined in our Privacy Notice.
